Which links are affiliate links

Any link pointing to amazon.com on this site is an affiliate link. They appear inside gear recommendation boxes, in the gear guides, and in the footer. Links to other websites, to reference material and to pages within this site are not affiliate links and earn nothing.

Amazon uses a cookie that lasts twenty four hours. If you click through from here and then buy something completely unrelated within that window, this site still earns a commission on it. That is worth knowing, and it is the reason a site like this one can exist without charging you anything.

How recommendations get made

Commission rates do not decide what appears here. Several pages on this site actively tell you not to buy something, including the gear guide, which argues that a heavy pan you already own does most of what a tofu press does.

Where a product genuinely helps, it is recommended. Where it does not, that is said instead. A site that recommends everything is worth nothing to a reader, and a reader who buys something useless does not come back.

Links work two ways depending on the page. On recipe and technique pages, where a specific jar or bottle is what you need, links point to a particular product. On the gear guides, where the point is helping you choose, links point to Amazon category results so you can compare current prices, sizes and reviews yourself instead of taking one pick on faith.
